The influence of self-esteem subtypes on aggression in young people

ABSTRACT: The research emphasizes the role of self-esteem subtypes (explicit and implicit self-esteem) and their relationship (congruence and discrepancy) in determining the aggressive behavior, behavior that may be mediated by anxiety and / or depression.
Investigated sample comprised of a group of 98 males, aged between 21 and 35 years old, at least high school education, military by profession. In order to measure the self-esteem level two instruments were used: one based on self evaluation (Rosenberg scale), and the other based on indirect measurement method (implicit association test-TAI) which tries to capture the less aware aspects of self-esteem. The aggressive and depressive trends were captured with FPI personality questionnaire and the anxiety trends were identified by applying Cattell Anxiety Questionnaire.
The results obtained in this research, based on the approach of aggression, depression and anxiety in terms of self-esteem concept and self-esteem subtypes combinations, confirmed its importance in the diagnosis process and therapeutic intervention of aggression among youth.

ABSTRACT: The present research starts from a concrete event, aggravated murder, after which the Medical Laboratory Legal Service has requested a psychiatric examination of the defendant. Psychological profile accounts that emerged from this multidisciplinary review led to the increasing objectification of approach psychological, psychiatric and legal professionals. Analysis of personality psychodynamic crime author, has raised the interest of specialists, in the sense that its examination was concluded: the core of criminal personality is a result , at present, not a given. Do not have any mental disorder within the Nosology. However, their personality structure elements can become the premise of criminal acts.

ABSTRACT: The study is oriented towards the analysis of the defense mechanisms and coping strategies of the medical personnel from the medical intensive care wards, The University Hospital Timisoara having as an objective the identification of the psychical defense strategies of the doctors and nurses who provide medical care to patients in severe or terminal stages of certain conditions. The study was carried out on 30 participants with a minimum experience of one year in the current workplace (intensive care wards). Within the study, the following psychological instruments were used: DSQ-60 (this instrument is pending validation on the Romanian population), COPE and STAI.
One of the conclusions draws the attention on the fact that coping means (coping strategies and defending mechanisms) used mainly by the subjects of this study are most represented by coping strategies with adaptative character, having a level of nonfunctional cognitions that permits normal functioning, and at the same time reporting a medium level of anxiety-as a state and feature.
At the end, it is emphasized that supportive strategies that are specific for integrative approach offer a wide working space, and the techniques that are used can be adapted and bended according to every individual’s personality and the integrative social area they come from, the final target being based on cognitive, behavioral and affective results efficiently translated afterward in balanced actions and well-being for each person.

Funcţionarea familiei şi starea de bine psihologică a adolescenţilor cu un părinte care a suferit o leziune a SNC

ABSTRACT – Obiective: Principalul obiectiv al acestui studiu a fost să examineze legătura dintre funcţionarea familiei şi sănătatea mentală a copiilor din familiile cu un părinte care a suferit leziuni cerebrale. În primul rând, am vrut să investigăm puterea predictivă a modului în care funcţionează familia asupra stării de bine psihologice a copiilor. În al doilea rând, diferitele subdimensiuni ale funcţionării familiei au fost examinate în vederea determinării puterii predictive a acestora pentru adaptarea psihologică a copiilor. În al treilea rând, a fost determinată valoarea predictivă a diferitelor strategii de coping la nivel de sistem familial, atât pentru funcționarea familiei, cât şi pentru adaptarea psihologică a copiilor. Metode: Pentru acest studiu au fost utilizate date de la 58 de familii. Următoarele instrumente au fost folosite: Youth Self Report, Family Crisis Oriented Personal Scales şi Family Assessment Device. Rezultate: Disfuncţionalitățile la nivel familial corelează pozitiv cu simptomatologia psihopatologică a adolescenților; patru subdimensiuni ale funcţionării familiei au avut valoare predictivă pentru problemele copiilor: receptivitatea afectivă, implicarea afectivă, roluri şi comunicare. Concluzie: Cercetarea este cu atât mai importantă cu cât studiile pe această temă sunt aproape inexistente şi se concentrează pe o categorie extrem de importantă – copiii.
